re.Minds: a social networking experiment

An idea spawned by two digital media students at Portfolio Center (http://www.portfoliocenter.net), re.Minds is an effort to offer people comfort in troubled times. Remember your friends, past and present, with fondness and humor and share those memories with the world. Hopefully others will be comforted and entertained and encouraged to join in and share their own memories. Find a picture and let us know who it reminds you of and why. Now go waste some time enjoying yourself in the memories we’ve recorded for you!

Cecilia Firouzabadi: I am a native of Atlanta but a child of the world. I come from two different cultures both of which show a passion for life, family, friends, and most of all laughter. This site is inspiring to me because everyone can share and relate to memories like these. The economy might be looking grim, but laughter truly empowers. Plus, it’s a great way to pass the time. As a student at Portfolio Center I love how I can work with people like Lyla who share my interest in getting others positively involved. As we all know, there’s never enough time in the day, but with good friends, laughter, and a passion for what we do, it’s a thrill when we can bring people together.

Lyla Morrison: I’ve always believed in the power of humor and a good attitude. Since becoming a design student at Portfolio Center, I’ve focused on bringing that belief to life in my work. People respond more positively and are more likely to participate if something is fun or humorous. Right now, more than ever, I think it’s important to share good times and humor with the world. It’s much harder to hate someone who makes you laugh. Who cares if it sounds trite, let’s go for world peace through laughter people! re.Minds offers us a place to congregate and share funny and fun memories. And maybe a little laughter shared among a world of friends will take us somewhere really special.
